ABOUT SHANIQUE
Shanique Peart is a Kingston based multi-disciplinary artist with a passion for creation, dance and photography. Shanique began her dance journey as a self-trained dancer exploring movement through Hip-hop and freestyle dance. Over the years she has had the opportunity to train in a variety of settings that has allowed her to develop her skills in multiple dance styles. Including Hip-Hop, Dancehall, Afro fusion, Modern and Urban Contemporary.
This diverse background has influenced her journey as a multi-disciplinary artist. Not only exploring and creating through movement but intertwining dance and performance through film and photography.
Outside of dance and photography, Shanique is moving into more creation-based and collaboration projects. Both in and outside of Kingston, ON. As well as the theatre, education and administrative space within the dance and arts community.
What is the candid creative co?
The Candid Creative Co is a dream turned into a company. My goal with rebranding my photography was to be able to highlight all of my artistic practices and give them a home. As well as keep you updated with all the amazing things I am so blessed to be a part of. Whether I am taking part physically or sponsoring, I wanted to be able to shed light on all these things in a clear way.
I wear many different hats within the thriving arts scene here in Kingston, ON. So, I thought it was time I became more Candid about my work, and my overall artistic journey.
Over the next couple of months, I hope to share more about my practice through my gallery, my social media, and my incoming Blog and Pop-up shop “Candidly Living“.
Additionally, over the next couple of years, I hope to transform this platform into a production company. A place to create new works - not only for myself - but for other artists who may not have many resources, physical space, or training opportunities; similar to the beginning of my artistic journey.

Over the years Shanique has had the opportunity to grow her skills as an educator in a variety of settings. Including within schools, churches, volunteer programs and workshops.
Presently she will be embarking on a new journey. Teaching at the Kingston School of Dance as a Hip Hop Instructor starting this Fall (2024).

I have been told my entire life that if I were to dip my feet into the world of theatre I would fall in love. So after many years of debating I am taking part in my first play that is taking place during TK Fringe.
Come see me in "Family Container" written by Seymour Irons on August 23rd at the TETT for our first public reading.

"Adaptations ll" By Shanique Peart and Shenel Williams
A personal piece that explores navigating the artist space as a BIPOC individual. Through each of the performance's sections, we hope to bring the audience through the phases of joy, complacency, inauthenticity, triumph, suppression and defeat. As it begins an individual journey, it quickly becomes a story about a shared experience and pressing into the importance of finding one's tribe.

A short dance film that explores womanhood and the relationship we have with our bodies.
Body Love is a multi disciplinary collobaration project with the goal of celebrating and highlighting the good, bad and the ugly.
Using Poetry, Visual Art, Nature, Pantomime and Dance. This walk is about holding space, loving ourselves, protecting ourselves and telling our stories with full transparency.
